As part of our English lessons on the letter Oo and Pp we are learning all about OWLS and OWL PELLETS. We have seen how owls fly silently, where they live and what they eat. We know they swallow their food whole and that they have two stomachs. We know that their body digests the proteins and vitamins and then the second stomach creates an OWL PELLET which the owl vomits up. We researched owl pellets and how important they are for us to learn about owls and what they eat. We also did our very own Owl Pellet Investigation. We brought a Science Study Pack from the UK and we opened some pellets up and investigated our own REAL Owl Pellets !

Mrs. Emma carefully opened the pellet. We looked carefully inside and saw fur, teeth, skulls and bones. We carefully examined to see what bones were inside. We tried to find out if they came from a bird, frog, lizard, or even a mouse. It was really interesting and exciting, as you never know what you will find in the pellets. One pellet we had contained fur and lots of bones but no skulls, another had tiny feathers, bird skull and a claws, while the third one contained 4 jawbones with tiny teeth and lots and lots of black fur!

Our owl pellet dissection lesson was definitely unforgettable! We turned into scientists and completed a research booklet with information and detailed drawings of our discoveries!
